Ceterus Insights offers the ability to upload financial data via a CSV file. Here's a quick overview of the process to help you get started.
To upload your financial data to Ceterus Insights, click "Submit Financials" in the sidebar. On the Financial Submissions page, you will see a table listing all of your available locations with up to 13 recent financial periods that are required for submission. The table will show whether you have uploaded data for each period. You can click the + icon in the left column to expand the row and see additional required financial periods.
You will only see periods during which your location was in operation, and which the administrator for your brand has required financial submissions, if applicable.
Note that Ceterus customers will not see any locations on this list for which Ceterus provides bookkeeping services, since data for those locations is automatically submitted by Ceterus.
To upload data for one of these periods, simply click the "Submit" button for that period (or the period name in the expanded view), or select the location and period you wish to upload from the dropdown menus at the top of the table.
For periods that have already been submitted, you can update the financial data as needed by selecting the "Update" button instead. Uploading a new financial report for a period that already has data will overwrite the existing data with the new submission.
After selecting a period to upload, you will need to provide a CSV file containing your financial data for that period. The data should be in the format shown below, with the account number and name in the first column, and the values for your location in the second column.
You must have a header row in your file, but the header row does not need to contain any specific data, as it will be ignored by the data processor. Failing to include a header row cause the top line of the file to be ignored instead, which will result in missing data for your topmost account.
Your dollar amounts can be formatted with or without the dollar sign. Negative amounts should have a dash - at the beginning, and should not use parentheses.
Each row must contain an account number or the file will be rejected.

You can export a CSV file from Microsoft Excel or another spreadsheet application, such as Google Sheets, or directly from many bookkeeping applications.
After submitting your data, you will need to ensure that your location's financial accounts are mapped to your brand's corporate chart of accounts.
- If you have previously uploaded data for a given account, Ceterus Insights will remember the previously-selected mapping and reuse it.
- If you have not previously uploaded data for an account, Ceterus Insights will attempt to automatically detect the correct brand account based on the account number. You will be able to change this mapping if it is not correct. Ceterus Insights will retain your selection for your next upload.
Note that you cannot map multiple location accounts to the same brand account. If you need to change an existing mapping, you can do so from the Location COA page.
After you have finished mapping your accounts, click "Complete Submission" at the bottom of the page. This will submit your mappings and save your financial report. You've finished submitting data for this period! You can now start a new submission for a different period, or explore the rest of the application.
