What is a Passkey?
Passkeys are a more secure alternative to passwords. Passkeys allow users to authenticate with their device’s built in security such as using a fingerprint, face scan, device PIN, or another device-unlock method.
Why did we implement Passkeys?
They are more resistant to phishing than traditional passwords.
Passkeys are a modern authentication standard supported by Apple, Google andMicrosoft.
They streamline the login experience.
Are Passkeys secure?
Yes. Passkeys use public/private key cryptography. The private key stays on your device or in your password manager and is not sent to the website, which makes passkeys much more resistant to phishing and credential theft.
Does Ceterus store any biometric data? No. We do not receive or store any biometric information.
Do Passkeys replace my password?
Passkeys provide an alternative way to login. You can still use your password if you wish.
Can I use any browser? Browser experiences can vary. Ceterus apps are optimized for Chrome. Older browsers/devices may not support Passkeys.
Where do I manage Passkeys?
Click the gear icon to access User Settings. Click Manage Passkeys. Click Add New Passkey. Follow the browser or password manager prompts. You may be asked to confirm with Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello, a device PIN, or another device-unlock method.
Can I edit a Passkey? You can rename an existing passkey.
Can I delete a Passkey? You can delete a passkey you no longer use.
How do I sign in with a Passkey? Select Sign In with Passkey on the login page.
Where are my Passkeys stored? Passkeys are stored in a secure credential provider associated with your account, not just on a single device. Examples include:
Apple Passwords / iCloud Keychain
Google Password Manager
Microsoft account / Windows Hello ecosystem
Because they are synced, you can use the passkey on multiple trusted devices, provided you use local device authentication (like Face ID) to access it.
Can I have more than one Passkey? Yes. You can set up multiple Passkeys.
What happens if I delete a Passkey?
Deleting a Passkey from the management page prevents that passkey from being used to sign in.
What if I lose my device or cannot access my passkey?
Use another available sign-in method or another device where your passkey is available through your password manager. If you are still unable to sign in, contact support for help recovering access to your account.
